Stay here and you’ll find yourself right in the middle of southern Portugal’s most famous highlights, yet pleasantly removed from the crowds of the big tourist hubs.
Porches is best known for its hand-painted ceramics. For generations, the town’s traditional potteries have produced beautifully decorated tiles and pottery, a piece of living Algarve culture and a lovely souvenir to take home. Down by the coast, the little white chapel of Senhora da Rocha sits atop a rocky headland above the sea, offering views that turn every sunset into an event.
But the real magic lies by the water. Just a few minutes away stretches Praia da Marinha, regularly ranked among the most beautiful beaches in Europe, with turquoise water and golden rock arches. From here, the famous “Seven Hanging Valleys” coastal trail winds along the cliffs, past hidden coves like Praia de Albandeira with its natural stone archway. The region’s true icon is the breathtaking Benagil Cave with its open ceiling window, is quickly reached by boat, kayak, or SUP.
