The Government’s proposal to revoke several measures from the “Mais Habitação” program, launched by the previous Government, received the green light in the final global vote. The proposal was approved with the favourable votes of the parties supporting the Executive (PSD and CDS-PP), as well as Chega, Iniciativa Liberal, and PAN, thus allowing the end of the extraordinary contribution on Local Accommodation and the increase of IMI on these properties.
The legislative authorization allows for the termination of the extraordinary contribution on Local Accommodation (CEAL) and the establishment of the age coefficient—an integer number of years elapsed since the date of issuance of the usage licence, when available, or the date of completion of construction works—applicable to Local Accommodation establishments for the purposes of Municipal Property Tax (IMI) assessment.
“CEAL was devastating for local accommodation, but equally damaging for the quality of national tourism, and the government and the parties that support the sector,” said the president of ALEP.
